2017 Delegate Origin
What Delegates thought about 2017
“The presentations I went to were really interesting and engaging – my biggest problem was that I had problems choosing between them!”
“I attended the conference to gain a greater understanding on issues and solutions. This was achieved and I have some interesting follow ups to do now.”
AURIN: a platform for Australian urban data.
Australian Urban Research Infrastructure Network (AURIN) is a common platform for data access and urban analytics. AURIN has supported hundreds of urban research projects. Examples include the calculation of a national liveability index relating urban design with health and chronic disease. Across Australia state and local governments are using AURIN to plan fair access to housing, health, education and transport services. Case studies are available at https://aurin.org.au/case-studies/.
Funded through the Australian Federal Government through NCRIS, AURIN has been accessed by over 9,000 registered users, a number that continues to grow. The users are comprised of University Researchers (85%) (the initial target audience) with the remaining 10% comprising state and local government policy makers and 5% NGOs.
The platform provides managed access to government, research and industry data sets. Currently there are over 3,500 data sets provided by 95 agencies published under Creative Commons or negotiated licence terms. The AURIN metadata capability ensures uniform discoverability and quality of data across publishing agencies (see data.aurin.org.au).
